Jameson Irish Whiskey announced that its 18-year whiskey is getting a make-over inside and out. In a move whiskey aficionados will greatly appreciate, the brand is giving the upscale whiskey’s proof a 12-point bump. The ABV of Jameson 18 Years has been increased from 40% to 46%, removing the need for chill-filtration and resulting in a whiskey with a richer mouthfeel and more depth of flavor. This change is aimed at keeping the whiskey interesting to both connoisseurs and novices alike, with an alcohol content high enough to appease more versed whiskey fans while still not being too overwhelming to consumers new to the spirit. By keeping the alcohol content high but not too high, the whiskey will be more palatable to those new to the drink while still providing a smooth, flavorful experience for those who are well-versed in the taste of whiskey.

With sustainability in mind, Jameson 18 Years is also ditching its wooden presentation box and will now be presented in a lightweight, fully recyclable cardboard box with foil accents. The new packaging will feature a scannable QR code that will direct Jameson fans to a virtual guided tasting hosted by Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman.

In the glass, Cooper’s Croze has a pale gold coloring, not unsurprising despite the age. The nose is a sweet one, carrying pears and raisins seasoned with cinnamon, and a trace of citrus petal honey. On the palate, the whiskey delivers a set of flavors that are exactly what I would expect from an Irish whiskey blend based squarely on pot still stock: honey and toffee done up with peppery spices and thick caramel, rounded out by dried, dark fruits that rise up at the end. The finish sees the caramel fade almost immediately, followed by the dried fruits, to finally leave a warm, spicy, tingling afterglow.

Each spring and fall, a new edition to the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series is released. Inspired by an original 1950's Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, the packaging and series honor both the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand and the historic Bottled-in-Bond designation. The Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree, as the brand was first registered in 1884 and was eventually sold to "Pappy" Van Winkle during Prohibition. In 1999, Heaven Hill bought the brand and began distilling it at Bernheimer Distillery in Louisville, KY. Today, in addition to our Old Fitzgerald Decanter Series, the legacy of Old Fitzgerald lives on in our other wheaten Bourbons expressions: Larceny Small Batch and Larceny Barrel Proof.

Blood Oath Pact 8 features a combination of the finest bourbons Rempe could find, including a 14-year ryed bourbon and an 11-year red bourbon, as well as an 8-year ryed bourbon, finished in Calvados casks. Calvados is an apple or pear brandy from the Normandy region in northwestern France that is distilled from cider and aged for a minimum of two years in oak casks.
